MF Doom artwork by Alex Deforce

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

As we all know, or not know, Doom is touring in Europe coming weeks.

Finally he is coming. :-)   I discovered Doom 8 years ago and really enjoy listening his music.  He catched my moment several times.

He s coming to Belgium too.  Alex Deforce from On Point Tv made the artwork for the show in Brussels.

Who is Alex Deforce?

He is a friend , an artist, a blogger, a dj,  …

A description of himself , taken from his Myspace page:

a.k.a. =lloyd= pointdexter, holdin’ it down at www.on-point.be

Filling my days with drawing, interviewing, dj’ing, reading, promoting (co-organised Locoflows Festival in 2005) and perfectioning my coffeetechniques (mind you, there’s different methods to a style!)

An unhealthy coffee addiction resulting in periods of insomnia, which in time combined with an uncompromising just-let-me-do-my-thing attitude gave birth to a trademark style.

Faces marked by the tension of modern day life, balancing on the tipping point between the grime of the city and the frivolous facade of metropolis.
Warm in their darkness, refined in their dirtiness.

We looooove Alex and his art! And the ‘On Point’  moments …

Oh and don’t forget to check his artwork!

Nour El Ghoumari

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Nour El Ghoumari is a Moroccan photographer.  Nour was born in the ancient Moroccan capital Taza nestled between the Riff and the High Atlas some 120 km east of Fez.

Nour El Ghoumari’s empathetic images are considered by many critics and enthusiasts to rank among the finest photography today. His work has been the discussed in leading photographic magazines and books, a selection of which were reproduced in The World’s Greatest Black and White Photographers, 2007. Since 1996 he has been exhibiting widely from London to Japan, from the Ukraine to Dubai – and every year in Morocco. He has won numerous international awards including the Gold Medal for Best Portrait in the Arab world for two consecutive years.

“Capturing the essence of a street scene is like trying to bottle lightning: an intuitive grasp of the moment has to be coupled with emotional poise and deft technique. The successful street photographer has to capture the tempo of the street, the spontaneous eruption of beauty and meaning glimpsed in a child’s eyes or an old man’s defiant gaze. Blink and it is gone – forever.” – Nour

His images speak for themselves: they are imbued both with pain and understanding. He extracts them at shutter speed from the flow of the mundane, the everyday. Blink and they are gone!

Enjoy this moment with me and one of my favourite photographers.

Don’t forget to check Nour’s website.

Cracker Bag

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I found this, not another short movie, that touched me in a way; Cracker Bag by Glendyn Ivin.

Eddie spends her pocket money obsessively hoarding fireworks and carefully planning for cracker night. When it finally it arrives, Eddie and her family head to the local football oval. In the frosty air Eddie lights the fuse of her first cracker and experiences a pivotal moment, one of the seemingly small experiences of childhood, that affects us for the rest of our lives.

Set in the 1980s, Cracker Bag is a gentle suburban observation which subtly reflects a disenchanting prelude to the coming of age.

Winner of the Palme D’Or – Short Film Cannes Film Festival 2003

Directed by Glendyn Ivin, Produced by Jane Liscombe, Director of Photography Greig Fraser, Edited by JAck Hutchings

Check also Exitfilms, the production company who made this happen.

Beautiful moment…
