If you are in London this weekend don’t miss the United Underground event presented by Ctrl.Alt.Shift.
United Underground is a unique collaborative project with Cutting-edge street culture, film, live music, DJs, artwork and new-school activism – on Saturday 20th February, hosted by the Southbank Centre, British Underground and Riz MC .
After a series of sell-out summer shows, for one night only, experimental youth movement Ctrl.Alt.Shift is bringing together the artists who are shaping London’s dynamic underground scene. The event has been created to promote exceptional new talent and activism, positioning music as a potential catalyst for change and highlighting the issue of conflict.
It promises to be an explosive evening, with performances from the likes of Trembling Bells and Aruba Red running alongside political speeches by journalist Ben White and former mayor Ken Livingston, uniting activists and performers from across the cultural and political spectrum. Meanwhile, an interactive digital installation will allow people to add their own personal messages to a collective call for peace.
The night will also boast DJ sets and live music from the city’s best club nights, including Wiley’s Eskimo dance, Urban Nerds and the infamous Dirty Canvas, as well as acoustic performances from prolific cellist Laura Moody and Olivia Cheney, who is fresh from her tour with Zero 7.
From 12 noon onwards, Writings On The Wall is a free warm-up event, featuring a screen printing workshop led by Print Club London, and a live showcase of unsigned music acts and spoken word.
Since 2008, Ctrl.Alt.Shift has been working to politicise a new generation of activists for social justice using creativity, photography, film, stories, illustrations and music. (Tekst by Krista Booker)
