Eight Four Films presents: The Seafarers – Sea of Love

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Elevated high above the tumultuous Sea of Love stands the home of this world’s foremost collector of exotic sea creatures, the gajillionaire Old Man Cruikshank. Cruikshank had sent a special invitation to the three bravest sailors known in whisper and legend, The Seafarers. And an invitation from Old Man Cruikshank is not something one turns down…and so the Seafarers’ adventure began.

In a city of singing cats, a lonely beat poet falls for a beautiful siren. When a mysterious dark figure emerges, kidnapping the town’s singers for his twisted musical plans, the poet must save his muse and put an end to the nefarious tune that threatens to destroy the city.

The Cat Piano is an 8-minute short film directed by Eddie White and Ari Gibson. The Cat Piano features the voice of iconic Australian artist Nick Cave narrating a poem written by Eddie White.  Nick Cave recorded the narration whilst in Melbourne in 2007 while on tour with his band, The Grinderman.

Anti-Photo Shield on Roman Abramovich’Giant Yacht

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Roman Abramovich, the Russian oligarch, appears to have come up with a novel solution to protect his privacy.

In a move that could eventually be copied by all discerning billionaires, Abramovich has installed an anti-paparazzi shield on his newest vessel, the world’s biggest and most expensive private yacht.

The high-tech system on Eclipse, a mega-yacht measuring up to 557ft, relies on lasers to block any digital camera lenses nearby.

The boat, which has reportedly more than doubled in cost to £724m since it was commissioned three years ago, glided out of port in Hamburg last week on its maiden voyage. On board were 150 engineers and maritime experts who will put it through its paces over 10 days. One witness described the boat as “a great white castle on water”.

The yacht — the fourth in Abramovich’s private fleet — drips luxury. It boasts two helipads, two swimming pools — the larger of which doubles up as a dance floor when drained — and 6ft-wide home cinema screens in all 24 guest cabins.

The master suite features a retractable roof, allowing the Chelsea football club owner and his girlfriend, Daria Zukhova, a former model, to sleep under the stars.

Mindful of a rise in piracy on the high seas, the yacht has a hull and windows capable of withstanding a missile attack and a mini-submarine for emergencies. Once it leaves the Blohm + Voss German shipyard, it will be fitted with a missile defence system in France.  Continue reading.

However, the boat’s most unusual feature is perhaps the anti-paparazzi “shield”.

Infrared lasers detect the electronic light sensors in nearby cameras, known as charge-coupled devices. When the system detects such a device, it fires a focused beam of light at the camera, disrupting its ability to record a digital image.

The beams can also be activated manually by security guards if they spot a photographer loitering.

Amazing…

Yoga Dogs

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Get in touch with your inner pup.  Meet the Yoga Dogs.

Five years ago photographer Dan Borris came across his first Yoga Dog. Otis was a two-year-old English Bull Terrier who loved to do yoga with his friend Joy. Joy would be practicing her yoga in the mornings while Otis wandered around her legs, stopping now and again to lick her face as she did a headstand. Slowly but surely Otis began to imitate Joy. At first he tried out simple poses, ones that came naturally to him like Downward and Upward Dog. As time went on Otis’s poses became more and more complex, until finally he began his own practice. While Otis himself wasn t captured on film, he did lead Dan on his path to finding other four-legged Yogis.

The original two-legged Yogis discovered poses by observing and imitating the movement of animals. Now the practice has come full circle and it s the dogs that are imitating us! You can see the absolute delight they take in their yoga and when they practice you can feel their profound concentration.

Just observe them: steady deep breathing (unless panting), totally focused attention (unless distracted by a ball or squirrel), and full stretches (especially upon waking).

We can all learn from their yoga. So next time you begin your practice, remember to get in touch with your inner pup.

Click here to meet the Yoga Dogs.  It s soooooooo cute!
